Andwa Consulting Technical Guide to Web Site Options

Introduction

This document outlines the Options available on the Andwa Consulting club web site.  It is for webmaster use to switch features on and off, and set the values of variable information.

For options that are NOT “Required”, set up this option ONLY if you wish to over ride the default.  Setting up unnecessary options could impact the performance of the web site so use the default when possible and enter values here only if required.

Textual Options

These options contain variable information that may change on a site-by-site basis.

Expected Roles – Required E-Mail Addresses

The web site sends out e-mails automatically to people filling certain roles in the club.  There are a few different options for setting up the required e-mail addresses:

Use the standardized e-mail addresses as required for the roles listed below.  This is the default – if no over-riding values are defined (ie. per options 2 or 3) then the default standard e-mail addresses will be assumed by the web site (whether they exist or not).

Use the standardized e-mail addresses, but re-define the name(s) of ones that can be redefined.  To redefine an address that has a “CodeVar” listed, simply set up a web site option of that name and put in the redefined name.  For example, if you want to re-define “Boss@” as “Volunteers@”, enter “Volunteers” in an Option called BossEMail.  NOTE that this option is retired, but kept in the code to support web sites already using it.  If you wish to redefine any e-mail addresses, please use option 3 – define specific address.

Define specific addresses for each role, for example, if the club is NOT using standardized e-mail addresses.  To completely redefine an address (ie. when the standard ones just won’t work), enter the desired COMPLETE e-mail address in a web site option of that name.  For example, if you want to re-define “Content@” as “Editor@

Expected Roles – Supporting Info

The web site expects certain roles to exist – the people in these roles may receive e-mails automatically sent by the web site, their name/e-mail address may be displayed, and so on.   If your club is not using a certain feature (ie. French Content) then the French Liaison information will be inapplicable, however, to be on the safe side, we recommend putting something in for all the options.  If you don’t have a person in a specific role, just enter your president/head’s username and name.

All of these options use only the first text box in the option.  In the cases where there’s more than one username and person name associated with a specific role, all applicable values must go into the first field:

Usernames separated by commas

Names separated however you want for display/clarification.  We recommend using a slash

Custom/Club-Defined Links

A club may define several of its own links to display on the web site.  Some of these options use just one field to display the whole link – URL and description in one text field, but most of them use the first part of the option for the description and the second part for the URL.  For these options, the single Option Name is listed and BOTH of the associated code variables are listed.

Most of these links are items that would go onto the left nav, but there are a few that are placed elsewhere on the web site, for example, a web ring link under the calendar, links in the footer, and so on.
