Itinerary:
Distance: 14km bike; 3.6km hike... approximately. Elevation gain: 200m. From the main parking lot, head through the campground to the gate. Continue through the gate and small parking lot onto a wide fire road. Continue to Nihahi Creek junction and stop and tie up the bikes to continue with the hike. Turn right, and climb 125m through a dry forest of pine and spruce to emerge on a high bench above a deep canyon. Rocks and tree roots require attention as you dip back into the forest on the east side of Nihahi Creek. Eventually you pass the rocky cleft at the top of the canyon and drop down to the winding, gravel-filled river channel. Finally, the valley opens up into a wide gravel plain that continues for many kilometers beyond the official end of the trail. We won't be going that way, though... nooooooooo... we'll be turning around and heading down the dry creek bed into the very cool canyon, which can be a little scary to find your way through, but is awesome all the same. After the canyon opens back up, we'll lunch/snack in the large open area of the dry creek bed, then proceed up the bank to hook back onto the hiking trail. Return to the bikes and ride out. How to Get There:
Event Directions:		Take the Trans Canada Highway west from Calgary and turn South on 22 toward Bragg Creek. At the stop sign at Bragg Creek, turn left to stay on Highway 22. Turn west (right) onto Highway 66 and continue west for 29.0 km. Turn left into the access road for Little Elbow Recreation Area. Park at the second left turn signed "Trailhead Parking".
