16.8 km
Elevation Gain: 600 m (approximate - at least 585)

Please note this is a mid-week (Wednesday) hike.

This will be a weather-dependent, slower-moderate paced hike so that we can really enjoy a full day.

Ed and I will stop in Canmore after the hike for pizza at Patrino's - please indicate in your registration notes whether you are interested in joining us!

Taylor Lake is one of the most accessible hanging valley lakes in the Bow Valley, and while the approach (heading up switchbacks up the side of the valley through forest) can be less than inspiring at times, the goal is well worth the trudgery. The trail opens up to meadow at the lake's outlet, and the north face of Mount Bell rises abruptly from the lakeshore, forming a 750m high wall. The low notch of Taylor Pass which is visible from here serves as a scrambling route into Consolation Valley.

We will continue on through meadows, mostly riverside, to the small but spectacular Lake O'Brien.

Please arrive before 8:30 so that we may all be in our cars and barelling toward Banff by 8:30.
