Santiago de Querétaro is a city in central Mexico. It’s known for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture such as a striking pink stone aqueduct. Notable baroque buildings include Santa Rosa de Viterbo church. The nearby ochre San Francisco church is in Zenea Garden, the city’s main square. In the old church convent, the Querétaro Regional Museum displays pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican artifacts
  • 1 hour bus ride to San Juan del Rio.
  • $4 bus ride (40 min) from airport to bus terminal
  • Most flights connect through USA. Westjet can connect through Puerto Vallarta onto Volaris (airline).
  • WEstjet also seems to fly to Mexico City, which is a 3-hour, $22 bus ride to Santiago. Partner airline: Aeromexico
  • Really good deal on AirBnB near bus terminal and historical centre in Santiago.

TipGeneral InfoWalk to/from Bus Terminal
Translated From Reddit
I have walked through the area, but the direct route is not the most beautiful or pedestrian.

From the center you may like this route: from where you are staying, walk towards Avenida Universidad (there is a river that could be pleasant if it hasn't rained), then walk towards Bernardo Quintana and when you get to Pathé, go to the neighborhood (It is a quiet and beautiful neighborhood to walk), then cross Carretas (which is super beautiful to walk with many parks) towards Quintas del Marqués (another quiet neighborhood), from there walk to the Corregidora Stadium and from there you just have to go around it a little towards Bernardo Quintana. Right in front of the Ibis hotel there is a pedestrian bridge that crosses Bernardo Quintana and leaves you next to the terminal. That final stretch is a bit ugly because it takes you to a half-abandoned alley, but then after that you get to the parking lot through the taxi area.

I have walked that section the other way around because I was working next to the terminal and suddenly I was going to the center. They are beautiful colonies with friendly sidewalks, they are quiet and there are even little trees that cover a bit of the sun.

Yes you can but there is not much to see if you want to get there fast ... maybe the stadium and the mall, but not much more until you get to the center. If you deviate a bit on your walk, you arrive at Carretas, which is a neighborhood with a beautiful park from which you can reach the arches (highly recommended). In this map: https://imgur.com/6WEvwjs the green line is the shortest distance between the station and the center walking through the safest area. The red one is my recommendation for a pedestrian route ... Walking through Carretas, the arches, the viewpoint, the Convent of the Cross, etc. The blue circles are nice areas to walk too, of course there are some areas that are less secure, like everywhere else. Lucky!0

Two QroBus apps on my iPhone - should give us transit info
If you really want to walk, walk to the stop in front of the red cross, there you take the bus to the central (one minute trip). The 121 leaves you in the central. you have to take the qrobus on constituents avenue, buy your ticket for 11 pesos on board and line 121 ends at the central bus station.0
TipReminderTravel Requirements
Do prior to trip
  1. Need printed copy of airline itinerary
  2. Need negative COVID test
  3. Confirm arrival with AirBnB
  4. Figure out how to use Uber
  5. Figure out what we have/need for health insurance
  6. Learn how to use the QroBus apps on iPhone

TipReminderCOVID Test
Need a COVID Test to fly through the USA
- Shoppers Drug Mart (seems to be most reasonably priced)
- Edmonton International Airport ($250/ea)

AccommodationBed and BreakfastLa Encantada

Located in the oldest neighborhood of the historic center and next to the Temple of the Cross, emblematic site of Queretaro's history, as well as the viewpoint and famous arches, plazas, bars, and restaurants.

The CANARIAN room is located within \"La Encantada “, a 17th-century house in El Barrio más antigua del Centro Histórico, a 5-minute walk from Los Arcos. Nearby you will find bars, restaurants, markets, gyms, shopping and sports malls, history and culture.

ActivitySight SeeQueretaro Aqueduct
Queretaro has an impressive 19th-century aqueduct, most of which is held up by huge arches (Los Arcos). The aqueduct runs right past our place, although not the arch-ey part. Brent and I took a walk today along Los Arcos. It's really really cool.

ActivitySight SeeSan Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende, a colonial-era city in Mexico’s central highlands, is known for its baroque Spanish architecture, thriving arts scene and cultural festivals. In the city’s historic, cobblestoned center lies the neo-Gothic church Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, whose dramatic pink towers rise above the main plaza, El Jardín. The Templo de San Francisco church nearby has an 18th-century churrigueresque facade.0

We had lunch at La Pamplonada, which was a great accidental find. Wonderful restaurant - so interesting on the inside. We loved it. Sadly, due to an ID-10-T error with my phone, I lost ALL of my photos of it. Bah! Hate those ID-10-T errors.0

boa mistura rejuvinate mexican neighborhood with otomi art

the setting for boa mistura‘s latest project is la colonia de las américas on the outskirts of querétaro, méxico – a humble community of working class people consisting of housing (much of which is self built) and small business: ‘misceláneas’ (grocery stores), taquerías, and cantinas.

américas is located across two sides of a hill, and has a ‘boomerang’ form overlooking the two main highways of the state; the ‘5 de febrero’ road and ‘bernardo quintana’, which converge exactly at the apex of las amércias — as a result the neighborhood is seen daily seen by thousands of people.

One of the produce stand people offered us a taste of one of these, and then, of course, we bought one. It was interesting. I'll try to describe it after we eat the fruit (rather than just the small sample).

Update: Meh. It's the Needles California of new food. So unremarkable that I couldn't describe it while I ate it and immediately forgot about it when I was done.0
