Neutropenia (say \"noo-truh-PEE-nee-uh\") means that your blood has too few neutrophils. These are white blood cells that help protect the body from infection. They do this by killing bacteria.

Energy requireMents in BReast cAnCEr
Weight gain is a concern for women with breast cancer. Providing enough energy during cancer disease is fundamental to maintain a healthy body weight. Unfortunately, we know little about how many calories women with breast cancer should be eating while receiving treatment. Understanding how many calories a person burns (total energy expenditure) can help us understand how many calories women need to lose, maintain or gain weight.

This study aims to help understand the energy needs of women undergoing treatment for breast cancer using two sophisticated techniques: the whole-body metabolic chamber (WBMC) and the Doubly labeled water (DLW).

Mazankowski Heart Institute Echo Lab, \n
Unit 2A7, 11220 83 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
An echocardiogram is an imaging test that uses harmless sound waves. It shows how well your heart muscle and valves are working, as well as the size of your heart. These images help the doctor evaluate your heart and plan your care.

BEFORE YOUR ECHO:
- There is NO special preparation for a transthoracic echocardiogram.
- You should wear a two-piece outfit to your test, as you will be required to undress from the waist up. You will be provided a gown/blanket.
- You will be asked to lie on your left side on an exam bed.

DURING YOUR ECHO:
- Small electrodes are placed on your chest to monitor your heart beat.
- A transducer coated with gel is moved firmly across your chest.
- At times, you may be asked to inhale or exhale and hold your breath for a few seconds.
- In some cases, ultrasound enhancing agent can be used, or bubble studies are performed. This is done through an IV.
- We are a teaching facility, so you may have a learner involved in your test.

PARKING:
The East Public Parkade (11249 83 Avenue) has direct access to our registration desk on 2A7 via a pedway. Give yourself time to find parking and make your way to patient registration.

PROCEDURE: The material risks of the procedure were explained to the patient and informed consent was obtained.

Using aseptic technique and local anaesthesia, a skin incision was made and the implanted vascular access device was removed in its entirety, without complication. Postprocedure fluoroscopy demonstrates no radiopaque foreign body.

The wound was closed with dissolvable, deep, interrupted 4-0 Vicryl and staples, the latter of which will require removal in 8 - 10 days. This can be done without an appointment in the oncologic imaging department.
