TipGeneral InfoAdvisory re: Crime
If you’re a victim of a crime, regardless of the nature, you should report it by making a formal complaint in person at the nearest prosecutor’s office (known as Ministerio Público or Fiscalía) before you leave the country. Insurance companies usually request a formal report before providing reimbursement. You should hire a local lawyer to represent your interests and follow up on your case after you return to Canada. Failure to do so may result in incomplete investigations or long delays in bringing cases to trial.0

Metro is closed. Take an Uber or Taxi.
Meeting Your Ride at Terminal 1
If taking an official taxi: Look for the indoor service booths labeled with names like Porto Taxi or Sitio 300. Purchase your ticket inside first, and the staff will direct you out to the specific taxi loading zone directly in front of the terminal doors. Traditional airport taxis have the exclusive right to pick up directly in front of the terminal exits, local authorities strictly regulate rideshare staging.
If taking an Uber or DiDi: Use the New Dedicated Pickup Zone (about an 8-minute walk between Terminals 1 and 2)
The airport launched a formal, dedicated waiting and boarding zone for ride-hailing services like Uber and DiDi to reduce terminal congestion.
The Location: It is a covered, secure structure with seating and security personnel located in the inter-terminal area between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
The Walk: Expect about an 8-minute walk along the designated path.
When to Request: Only request your ride while you are actively walking toward this zone. If you request it too early while still at baggage claim, the driver may arrive ahead of you and cancel.
2. Guard Against the "Cash Scam": A common tactic among some drivers at the airport is to accept your ride, message you via the app, and ask you to cancel the trip so you can pay them directly in cash or via a personal card terminal. Do not cancel: Keep all payments strictly inside the Uber App. If a driver insists that you pay cash or cancel, cancel the ride yourself and report them to Uber immediately.
3. Verify the Vehicle Details: Because the pickup zone can be busy even in the middle of the night, always match the license plate, car model, and driver's face with what is displayed on your screen before opening the door.

TipTravel ResourceBus Depot to Centro
Getting to Centro: Take Tuzobús (non-express)
Where to Find It
- Exit the Terminal: Walk out of the main entrance of the Terminal Central de Autobuses.
- Cross the Boulevard: Safely cross the main road out front via the pedestrian bridges towards Boulevard Felipe Ángeles.
- Locate the Stop: Look for the "Estación Central de Autobuses" stop of the Tuzobús network (Pachuca's rapid transit system). Note that there is supposed to be a ped bridge that connects.
- Line: Take the Trunk Line (Parador, not Express) line heading North toward Centro.Drop-off: Get off at Plaza Juárez or Centro Histórico. This bypasses traffic and takes about 10–12 minutes.Cost: ~$10 MXN.
You will need to buy a transit card at the station kiosk.
To get to J Mariano Jiménez 114 using the Tuzobús, the absolute best stop to exit is Niños Héroes Poniente. If you accidentally hop on an express line that skips Niños Héroes, you can also get off at Plaza Juárez. From there, it is a slightly longer but straightforward 8-minute walk west across the plaza and down Calle Ignacio Trigueros to connect with J Mariano Jiménez.

The Tuzobús is Pachuca’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. It functions like a surface-level subway, utilizing large, modern buses that run in dedicated, barrier-protected center lanes to completely bypass city traffic. The government recently took over direct operations under the Sistema de Transporte Metropolitano, introducing a brand-new fleet of vehicles, updated security cameras, and fully renovated stations.
System Layout & Routes
- The system consists of one major Ruta Troncal (Trunk Line) that cuts straight through the city from North to South, supported by smaller Rutas Alimentadoras (Feeder Buses) that connect outer neighborhoods.
- The Main Trunk Line: Runs from Terminal Téllez in the south all the way up to the Centro Histórico in the north, stopping at 31 glass-enclosed stations.
- Parada Central de Autobuses: Conveniently, the system has a dedicated station spur directly serving the Central de Autobuses de Pachuca, making it seamless for travellers.
- Service Types: Pay close attention to the bus windshields. Some are Parador (stop at every single station), while others are Exprés (like the T01), which skip smaller stops to get you to Centro much faster.
- Fares and How to Pay: The Cost: A flat rate of $10 MXN per ride (roughly $0.50 USD).
- The Tuzocard: Cash is not accepted on board the main trunk line. You must purchase a smart transit card (Tuzocard) from the electronic vending machines inside the station. The machine dispenses the card and allows you to load money onto it. You only need one card for both of you; just scan it at the turnstile, pass it back to your partner, and scan it again.
- Transfers: If you need to switch from the trunk line to a feeder bus, your transfer is free when using the card.
- Operating Hours:
-- Weekdays (Mon-Fri): 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
-- Saturdays: 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
-- Sundays & Holidays: 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Bus Options & Details
Direct Buses (Autobuses Conexión, Futura, Ómnibus de Oriente): These intercity lines frequently depart fr0m the Central de Autobuses de Tulancingo. They run multiple departures daily and dr0p you off at the main bus terminal in Pachuca.
Because the journey takes roughly 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, you should target a bus departing between 12:30 PM and 12:45 PM.
- Head to the Terminal: Go to the Central de Autobuses de Tulancingo.
- Buy a Ticket: Look for the Conexión or Futura ticket counters. These lines leave roughly every 20 to 30 minutes. Ask for the next immediate departure to Pachuca.

TipTravel ResourceTo Tecozautla
To travel from Zempoala to Tecozautla without a car via Pachuca, you will need to take a combination of a local connection (combi or Texcoco bus) and a regional bus (Autobuses Conexión/Estrella Blanca). The trip covers two distinct legs and takes roughly 3.5 to 4 hours of total travel time.

Step-by-Step Directions

Leg 1: Zempoala to Pachuca
You first need to reach the main bus terminal in Pachuca (Central de Autobuses de Pachuca). Options:
- You can take a local blue colectivo/combi or a Texcoco bus from Zempoala (often passing near Cerrito station). Local combis to Pachuca pass frequently (every 10–15 minutes).
Dr0p-off: Ensure you take a route that goes directly to, or passes right by, the Central de Autobuses de Pachuca or the nearby Gran Patio shopping area.
Duration & Cost: Around 30 minutes; approximately $35 – $45 MXN.

Get cash if needed

Leg 2: Pachuca to Tecozautla (via Huichapan)
- Once at the Pachuca Central Bus Station, you will buy a ticket heading west toward Tecozautla.
Bus Line: Autobuses Conexión (part of the Grupo Estrella Blanca network) is the main carrier operating this route.
The Route: Most direct routes require you to buy a ticket to Huichapan, and then catch a coordinated connecting bus from the same line directly into Tecozautla. Buses depart roughly every hour.
Duration & Cost: Around 3 hours; total cost for this leg is roughly $130 – $150 MXN.

Travel Tips
Alternative Option: If you prefer not to wait for bus transfers, check BlaBlaCar Mexico. Carpooling drivers frequently post routes directly from Pachuca to Tecozautla for around $140 MXN, which cuts the second leg down to about 2 hours

If you leave Zempoala around 10:00 AM, the total journey will take between 4 and 4.5 hours, meaning you will arrive in Tecozautla between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
Leaving at this time introduces a slightly longer wait at the Pachuca bus terminal due to regional bus schedules.

Projected Timeline
- 10:00 AM – 10:35 AM | Leg 1 (Zempoala to Pachuca): Taking a local combi or Texcoco bus will get you to the Central de Autobuses de Pachuca in about 30 to 35 minutes, accounting for mid-morning traffic.
- 10:35 AM – 11:15 AM | Transfer Window: You will arrive in Pachuca just after the 10:15 AM departure has left. This gives you roughly 40 minutes to buy your ticket, grab a snack, and board the next scheduled Autobuses Conexión departure at 11:15 AM.
- 11:15 AM – 2:10 PM | Leg 2 (Pachuca to Huichapan/Tecozautla): The regional Conexión bus takes just under 3 hours to travel across the state via Huichapan, dr0pping you off in Tecozautla right around 2:10 PM.

Factors That Could Affect Your Time:
- Combi Wait Times: Combis pass frequently, but if you just miss one at 10:00 AM, it might push your arrival at the Pachuca terminal closer to 10:45 AM. You will still comfortably make the 11:15 AM bus.
Traffic: Mid-morning traffic leaving Pachuca toward the west (Actopan/Ixmiquilpan highway split) is generally moderate, but roadwork can occasionally add 15–20 minutes to the regional bus segment.

TipTravel ResourceTo Huichapan
Taking the intercity bus between Tecozautla and Huichapan is a very simple process. Because this is a short, localized route, it functions somewhat like a regional commuter shuttle.

Step 1: Head to the Tecozautla Departure Area
- You will need to buy your ticket in person on the day of travel.
- Location: Go to the localized boarding area/ticket window for Autobuses Conexión, typically located within or just off the main municipal center of Tecozautla.
- What to look for: Look for the Conexión signage or look for the green and white Grupo Estrella Blanca logo.

Step 2: Purchase Your Ticket
- Payment: Buy your ticket directly at the window. It is highly recommended to bring cash in Mexican Pesos (MXN), as smaller regional terminal kiosks often cannot process debit or credit cards.
- Cost: The fare is quite inexpensive, usually hovering around $55 MXN for this brief trip.
- Seating: Buses on this short corridor usually operate on an economy, first-come, first-served open seating basis.

Step 3: Board the Bus
- The Route: Confirm with the driver or terminal staff that the bus is heading toward Huichapan.
- Amenities: Even though it is a regional route, Conexión utilizes standard large intercity buses equipped with luggage compartments underneath, air conditioning, and reclinable seats
