I’m starting my third day with a resting heart rate well over 100bpm. It woke me up at 1:30 this morning racing so badly. It’s making me dizzy and lightheaded. \n\n

Years ago when Brent was going to be convalescing from surgery I bought a little clangy hand bell that he could use to summon me when he needed anything. He never used it. \n\n

This morning I have asked him to bring it to me because I’m feeling so weak I had trouble calling for him when I needed help with something. \n\n

I thought the side effects were supposed to start easing up a little by now. I sure hope the reduced dose moving forward leaves me better off than this.

Another rant about Obnoxious D (my oncologist).\n\n

Before I started chemo, I talked about getting funding to get the \"expensive poke\" that would prompt my body to generate lots of nice new white blood cells after the chemo knocks them out. I had my chemo infusion on Friday, and I got the \"expensive poke\" on Saturday.\n\n

On Wednesday, I spent 12 hours in the ER, diagnosed with Neutropenia (very low level of the white blood cells called neutrophils), and developing an infection (which is very dangerous when one has Neutropenia). \n\n

As a result of the day in the ER, I was set up with two follow-up appointments at the Cross for them to do blood work (check on those neutrophils again), and have a consult. \n\n

Well, I had my second follow-up with one of the nurses, and she mentioned that my neutrophils were way better than they had been on Thursday (the day I saw Obnoxious D). Oh really? What are they? Well, neutrophil standard range is 1.8 - 7.5 10*9/L. She said that my neutrophils had jumped up to 6.3 (presumably thanks to the \"expensive poke\") - yay! Buuuuut... what do you mean it's better than the day before? On Thursday, Obnoxious D said that my neutrophils had jumped way up and looked great. What were they then? 0.7.\n\n

How am I ever supposed to even trust this guy? Even if I can get past his horrible communication...

- Dental infection - I have an infection behind my lower-left molar that seems to be easing up with the antibiotics. I'm concerned that, even if it goes away this time, the next infusion might trigger a comeback. I'm not sure if I should seek dental help, though, because that also has risks. Answer: They don't want me to seek dental intervention at this time. Use baking soda rinse, and call triage if it gets worse. Note that if I absolutely need dental work during chemotherapy, it's best to get it during days 17-19.\n
- New anti-nausea solution: The Metoclopromide does not seem to work for me, and I had a bad side-effect reaction to gravol. I've asked for a new solution. I can't take Ondansetron while I'm on the antibiotics. Answer: They'll get back to me before I meet with Nurse Susan on July 4. Phone triage if I need a solution sooner than that.\n
- Hydration - Nurse wants me to use full-strength electrolytes instead of half-strength.
