Using aseptic technique and local anaesthesia, a skin incision was made and the implanted vascular access device was removed in its entirety, without complication. Postprocedure fluoroscopy demonstrates no radiopaque foreign body. The wound was closed with dissolvable, deep, interrupted 4-0 Vicryl and staples, the latter of which will require removal in 8 - 10 days. This can be done without an appointment in the oncologic imaging department. |

Today is the day that I feel my cancer treatment is officially concluded. My \"bell ringing\" day. I didn't physically ring a bell, and I don't want to... it's enough for me to ring the bell in my head. I'm so happy about it, however, my incision and staples hurt and I'm looking forward to getting them out next Thursday.\n\n My post-surgery nurse asked me if I was happy to be \"de-ported\". Of course, Brent found that quite amusing.\n\n The surgical team isn't supposed to let you keep your port, but I asked and they gave it to me. Photo below. Yes, that is the gadget that was under my skin for the last year. It had a tube about 5\" long coming out the top that made its way up from my collar-bone area to snake into my jugular vein. *shudder*
